There were no “Axis Powers” in the First World War. You mean “Central Powers”.

Maria was hired to be a tutor to *Maria* who had been left weakened by scarlet fever, not Agathe. In her book, special note was taken that they had the same name.

  5. How could Maria have been pregnant when they got married? She and the Captain were married in 1927 and their first child was born in 1929. That’s a pretty long pregnancy……

  7. I know it sounds romantic that they got married due to their passion but research says that they were married long before Rosmarie, their first child was born…..

I don’t think I said that she was.

I’m sorry. That’s what I thought you meant by this…
In fact, as time passed, they grew to love each other so much that they decided to prove it in the bedroom. That proof meant that they then had to get married, and they did, on the 26th of November, 1927. Maria was a mere 22 years old, to the captain’s 47, and she was expecting her first baby.

Is it not? It looks like that’s what it’s saying. I really do like how well this is written, though 🙂

I think I mgiht’ve mumbled up my words a bit. My research didn’t reveal anything untoward, so it was probably just mucky phrasing. I’m glad you liked the posting, anyway 🙂

It seems that the problem of the date of Rosemarie’s birth was caused by Maria herself. On two official forms – Declaration of Intention in 1944 & Petition of Naturalization in 1948 – she wrote down the wrong date, 8th Feb 1928, instead of 1929. These documents are on record.

Is it possible to get a copy of the original Von trapp; family film, as I remember seeing it long before The Sound Of Music

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at the Family Trapp Lodge in 1978 and Maria came into the dining room in her lovely Austrian dress and stopped at our table for a lengthy conversation with us. She was so kind and friendly and took such interest in us and the other guests. It so saddened us when 2 years later she lost everything in the tragic fire. One room in the beautiful lodge was a museum containing photos, news clippings, paintings and many lovely artifacts from their many years of travels as a singing family – such a devastating loss for Maria in her old age and all the family members! We have Maria’s book and thank you for your article in sorting out fact from fiction!

  19. In the section “The Von Trapp Children” you said that “Kurt” and “Friedrich” were the same age. Is that true?

    • Charlotte says:

There were several years between them. Werner was about 10 when Maria first met him, and his older brother was 14.
